Day 1-2
Windhoek - Namib Naukluft Park

  • Departure from Windhoek at 07h00 via Rehoboth, home to the Baster, over the scenic Spreetshoogte Pass into the Namib Desert. We meet the "Desert" Namas - the 'Topnaars', and visit the settlement Mirabib and the research centre Gobabeb. Here you might also see some Oryx, ostriches, zebras and springbuck.

Day 3-4
Namib Naukluft Park - Spitzkoppe

  • Drive through the Namib desert to the Welwitschia plains and to the moon landscape. Continue to the Erongo region, with the Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy, including cultural artefacts such as rock paintings, rock engravings and prehistoric settlements. The ,Spitzkoppe', an extraordinary granite mass, hosts the rock paintings of ancient San Bushmen - known as "Buschman's Paradise". The local Nama-Damara ethnic group now lives in this area. The camp site on foot of the Spitzkoppe is managed by the local community.

Day 5
Spitzkoppe - Twyfelfontein

  • Past the Brandberg we continue our journey into the fascinating Damaraland. Here we visit the ancient and famous rock paintings and engravings at Twyfelfontein. Some more interesting sights in the area include the Burnt Mountain, Organ pipes and Petrified Forrest.

Day 6
Twyfelfontein - Khowarib gorge

  • On our way towards the north we visit typical Damara villages and settlements. Late afternoon we arrive at the Khowarib gorge, where we will set up camp for the night.

Day 7-8
Khowarib gorge - Kaokofeld/Opuwo

  • Past Sesfontein through the mountains our journey takes us to Opuwo, the capital of Kaokoland. Here we have the first encounters with the normadic tribe of Kaokoland - the Himba. The next day we spend time with visiting Himba villages in the area, learning more about their ancients customs and traditions.

Day 9
Kaokofeld - Ruacana falls

  • We head northeast towards the Kunene river, which forms the border between Namibia and Angola. In the afternoon we visit the Ruacana falls.
  • Camping with full board near the Ruacana falls.

Day 10
Ruacana Falls - Ovamboland

  • Drive through Ovamboland with visits to a traditional settlement - a Ndonga- or Kwanyama Kraal.
  • Continue to Nakambale where we visit the "Nakambale Mission House".
  • Camping with full board at Nakambale.

Day 11
Ovamboland - Etosha National Park

  • Through the Andoni-Gate we enter the famous Etoscha national park. Game drives through the park until sunset.
  • Camping with full board at Namutoni.

Day 12
Etosha National Park - Maramba

  • Close to Tsinsabis we find the Farm Maramba, with a Bushman-expert. He speaks the language fluently and explains and shows the life of the bushman traditions. If time allows we can still visit the Ombili-Stiftung, established in 1989 towards the conservation of the Khoi-San-Buschmen.

Day 13
Maramba - Waterberg Plateau Park

  • Via Grootfontein we drive through parts of the Hereroland to the Waterberg Plateau Park. The Herero are a cattle breeding tribe who migrated to Namibia several centuries ago. After the colonial wars only a few refugees returned to this area, and started to rebuild what once was a proud cultural tribe with strong family values and tribal solidarity. East of waterberg you still find the communal farming area of the herero. On foot of the mountain a graveyard serves as a reminder of this period in history.
  • A hike to the top of the Plateau will reward you with a view over endless Namibian land .. one last time!
  • Camping with full board at the Rest Camp Waterberg.

Day 14
Waterberg - Windhoek

  • In Okahandja we visit the Kavango wood market. Arrival in Windhoek at about 13h00 pm.
